an amazing xmas gift

this is amazing news for me
rage ( a popular music video show)
held their annual top 50 videos of the year
at number 8 was rabbit song
and at number 23 was blood to gold
this is such an honour ..i am so completely
blown away by it

the au news also placed rabbit song as their
number 9 video of the year alongside yeasayer,
kanye west and Mia..

carmen coming soon

this week byron and i headed down along the
southern coast of new south wales to shoot the
video for Canadian Carmen townsend ..its so nice
and such an honour to shoot a video for a visiting
international act..the video is patrly inspired by
wuthering heights and should be up post xmas

campfire of the gods

this is an idea i have been throwing around
for a while but when asked to do a next big
things , artist line up an erupting volcano
came to mind...

the world in the palm of your hand

that curious expression was bouncing
about in my head , so when i was asked to
do a poster for jason collett ( im a big
broken social scene fan ) i was very
excited and thought this seemed apt..
something about going solo and having that
world out there in your grasp..or something
maybe i was bored and thought it look cool..
who knows..

just once i would like to wake up in suburbia
and have this happen..this is my postcard where
the headline should be " wish i was here"...

It's a guy thing!

So here's the cover for guy sebastains retrospective
album twenty ten . i co art directed this with debaser
which was a big thrill , as they have done some of my fave
album covers of recent years..theres a bit of a story attached
to how this became the cover art of what might be a number one
album..wouldnt that be insane..my shit would be every where..


so this city was built just on a whim ..an idea
i had one morning and from the outset it felt right..
so happy with it i just sent it spec to sony and the
recording artist i had in mind..then i get a urgent
phone call asking if the clock city could be used for
guy sebastian , and im no spaz thinking how great the
exposure would be , so i said yes..about a week later
im on the shoot and feeling like a fish that grew big
over night in someone elses pond..it was a great experience
and now..ta da nationwide my clock city will be on shelves
everywhere

under tray image..im so happy with the extent sony has used

lior has gone to the birds part 2

to add to the bird houses at front of stage
this massive looping projection played behind
him..it shows subirdia at dawn with the little
bird families coming out and greeting the day

lior has gone to the birds

so a few weeks ago i was asked by lior
a much loved australian singer/songwriter
to work on some stage design..after throwing
around some ideas we liked this idea of subirdia..
a town of birds all with their own stories ..
so i got to work hand crafting these doll house/
bird houses filled with little families and cute
bird related in jokes...inspired by wes andersons
mr fox film these took a week or so to make but
after a few breakdowns and tantrums , i think
they came good

in stores now..but not for long

a brisbane store is selling the montpelier
shirt i did recently featuring the upside down
boat , that ties into the upside down world branded
for them..it trips me out no end to see this in a
store window...

hope is for the hopeless

So, im pretty sure this is my
first headshot cd cover but both
jack and i wanted it to have a story
or its own artwork attached to it and
i was keen to do something that looked
like a projected image..it was originally
ladders leading out of suburbia and into the
sky but this bird / freedom image was just
a last minute thing and then all involved felt
it was the right image..
anyways its a great song..head to his myspace

friday night projectile

this is a few weeks old but heres a pic of
the animated projection of lighthouse island
playing on stage amongst the band and out old
lamp lighthouses..

this is where the wild things are

I have known and worked for dead letter
for some years now and was eagre to do a video
and was over the moon when it was run wild
that i got to do the video for..its such a great
song..so we nutted out the idea of this of a where
the wild things are type situation but with a peter
pan style love story..this was my first solo effort
minus byron on camera and after a wobbly start
( footage now lost forever and will stay that way)
i found my footing and grew more and more confident..
in the end im very happy with the result and i find the
love story to be very sweet and touching..if i do say so
myself.

tim and jean - come around

so here is one of my latest videos
this originally was going to be a space
epic in the style of the early 70's but
after discussing it with the boys they wanted
to do something a lot less obvious...
which i applaud..after discussing there love
of the film nowhere boy and the early 60's
rockabilly scene i refanged the story to this
kinda middle aged - coming of age - story
tat has a lot of visial nods to the era..
it was also the most fun ive had shooting

relax it's completely natural...

when i sourced the balerinas
a siren went off in my head that
i needed to turn them into flowers..
i really enjoy this new branding we
are continuing on for natural selection
and its such a great night..
the last one sold out and i like to tell myself
it was because of the poster..

this picture was taken by dimity

over the last few days..more of her

the video which is a love child of
where the wild things are and peter pan

the city so nice ...

..i postered it twice..one is
just for the mercury lounge show
with other australian band city riot
and the other is for all three boy and
bear nyc shows..i love working my branding
on this...and putting those lighthouses in place
of the nyc skyline was pure joy..its nice when
you can work with a smile on your face

tim and jean - come around

This was such an incredibly fun video shoot
doing it small scale and with friends and new
friends made for such a light hearted atmosphere..
The story is a middle age - coming of age tale of
man who is rigid and bored encountering this new world
thats opening up during the early 60's and his meagre
adventures that follow as he attemps to live the rebel
life..as a film nerd it was pure joy putting in many
refrences from the age such as rebel without a cause and
the man in the grey flannel suit.

for the birds

this was someting very different for me
but something im very proud of , its a direction
i would loved to steer towards every once in a
while..in a way its related in composition to push pin
studios bob dylan poster from the 60s..its just a
image that i felt from the get go was working and
thats pretty rare...plus i hope that the winter
people might be impressed by i as i would love to
work with them at some stage.

climb every mountain

I always liked the idea that
if you dug far enough that you would
reach china so when i was coming up with
this idea i thought imagine if you climbed
high enough what would you reach..and the hope
would be , paradise..to make the effort all worth
while...so this s part of a huge branding for
the band that will evolve over the next few months

dont wanna brag about it

a few weeks i got asked to
photograph local fave band
cloud control for the cover
of the brag..i wanted to infuse
some kinda artwork into it and
decided upon what we coined on the
day a " landbrella"








what wasnt planned on the day was
all these office dogs hanging around
so i decided to put them in the shoot
to make it more playful..we were so
happy with the results we made it the main
story picture...
