queensland singer songwriter emailed me
asking me if i could do an inkblot test
involving drums.piano's,guitars and his
fine self...this is what i came up with..

heres a copy of the beginning of the
email i sent the band which pretty much
sums this up..kinda
" Hey mister..heres the poster tried to
make it look like maybe if dali had got
into anti nuke propaganda or something
like that maybe if dali and warhol had
a love child who made peacenik posters..
anyways....

also mark from the small hours runs coolin
by sound a monthly indie night..heres a poster
for one of those nights..the last poster for this
and this current one is a reworking of art work
i did for the dlc art show night

shoot the player: the vivian girls

this was a fun return to shoot the player
althought we fought light and rain it was
a great shoot which culminated with a fan
love in while the girls played in the
middle of a surry hills roundabout

i hear the wolf at the door..

heres a poster im working on for
this theatre company..its a reworking
of classic childrens fables for both
the adelaide and melbourne festivals..
wanted to do something both graphic
and something like nordic folk art..
hope this conveys that

this is just a quicky colour job
to get a rough feel for where this
is heading


its been a big process but we have narrowed
down the selection of the fuzzy shore thing
monster to this one..now just gotta get his
movement right and then we can move on..

more ellis concepts

ok i was getting a little trippy with
recent ellis concepts so i decided to strip
it back to its barest..even though this is still
a little freaking trippy

you cant return home..but you can return to monster valley

UPDATE
this image got the thumbs down ..so its
back to the old drawing board

i was asked to do something wild things like
for sony..but i resisted the urge to out right
ripping off so instead i was inspired by the
ending of labyrinth where the toys in her room tell
her " if you ever need us..you know where to find us"
with this in mind i put the boys on a trek
returning to monster valley..a place they may have
played in their youth

i have two massive monster jobs at the
moment..one is for fuzzy and required a
lot of concepts till we got the right
one..the other requires lots of monsters..
moral of this story..careful what you
wish for!!

sony has asked for me to mix illustration
and photography for this Georgia Fair album..
they want a merry band of wild things-esque
monsters following the boys pied piper style
into the woods..
this image is my jumping off point in the

the dew process ppl seem to like this rural
trippy-ness so this is the avenue im taking
with ernest ellis

after many revisions..these are whats going to
the printers for both bands..the jack carty tug
boat in space image may be adapted into a sfx
video clip

inspired by something i saw incorrectly..
sometimes bad eye sight is a blessing , most
times its not...

UPDATE
after a meeting the fuzzy team decided
upon a melding of the first pixar like
monster and a bizaare floating head
pencil sketch i had done...this is
a 5 minute colouring job on a sketch
of what they might want









i have a strange history with fuzzy..
having done more posters that never saw
the light of day than ones that did i am
not really getting too excited but part
of me wants to anyway because the event
i have been asked to design for is massive..
i mean mega massive
anyways their idea is to have a large sea monster
that has bondi and the city upon its head...
this is my first attempt at one of the sea monster
concepts i have

a bit on the side- art project

Produced in under a week for the dead letter
chorus album show at notes these were made
for stand alone display in the lobby area.
i had a real blast basically producing outside
my usual comfort zone and producing just for
myself..most times i worry if people like
what i do..in this case..i was very happy and
that was the only person i needed to please..
on the upside ..all loved the new stuff and
life and that night was grand

after the last under tray art was given
the thumbs down from stoop we worked on this
idea of the city at night contrasting with
the brightness of the front cover..in a way im glad
those thumbs were pointed south

mood ring concept

boy oh boy it's been a busy couple of days
around here..but anyways
heres a poster i did for sam feilder
i have done a poster for him before
for the new prophet..i think the deal
is he is going for funding and is looking
for posters to put as part of the package..
anyways the brief was biker girls and trippy-ness
i believe this fits the bill

very early ernest ellis concept

so this is my first gig with dew process
which i am super excited about..they are the
label who gives us sarah blasko, the panics and
whitley ...anyways my concept is for this hunted
warhorse to be bleeding ink spots that have imposed
on the images of foggy locales full of hunters..
i hope it will be one long massive artwork..
the concept is a mixture of me and the lead singer
and dew's marketing team..the album is called the hunted
so they are eagre to have someone hunted..

this is the first concept i came up with
although back then i had it more 9/11 but
i thought i would settle the fuck down and
make it more like moths to the flame than
my little end of the world visions



i've been wanting to pop this candle hat on something
for a while..maybe next time i will construct a chandelier
hat..
