..by any other name

this is an idea i have been kicking around since the
early-ish John Columbus days , this concept of being
able to project memories or dreams..its an idea i would
love to push further some day..





For mr chris rose and his band of thorns
i also did some promo shots..

old home movies

unable to sleep one Saturday night i decided
to take a drive down memory lane and cut together
a loose collection of faux old home movies taken
from byron and I's recent trip to the USA to film
the video clip for Feeding line

this is part one...

make love not warhol

From the outset this was going to be a challenge,
a challenge because almost every aspect of this seemed
to be the polar opposite to everything i had done in the
past . for starters , it was purely performance , it was
drenched almost drowned in colour and most importantly
noone seemed to be walking anywhere or going on some
trumped up spiritual journey..

so i felt very much outof my comfort zone ..
but as it turns out it was one of my most
comfortable shoots of all..shot with an old mate
and in his house against a green screen we took our time ,
bonded , played mortal kombat and ate bad mall food for
two days straight..it felt more like hanging out than making
a video..but of course ..then comes post production.







the cherry on top of this technicolour dessert was
having fellow video maker edward watson play andy
warhol..seeing him dressed as the father of pop art
was such a sheer delight ..





Here is a sneak peek of screen grabs i have
taken while doing the fx and post production









so as it stands at time of this blog im about
half way through post production and the sense
of fun and experimentation is still in the air..
so the moral kids..maybe step out of that comfort
zone once in a while..

tour of duty

As the albums i have worked on are being released
so comes the tie in poster..i try to play with the
image a little to make it part of the album world but
not a cut and paste of the album cover

Not a ghost of a chance !

its our ghost story filmed in Queensland just after
our return from the states , so some of it was actually
directed in the state of jet lag i think , which i hope
adds to the ethereal quality of it..besides all that
byron and I are mighty proud of it

boy oh boy

So it is finally here , Boy and Bear's Moonfire
album . Its been a long journey with the boys and
its culminated into one stellar album ...
The design for the album was a real collaborative
effort , using both photography taken by members of
the band and my high concept chandelier narrative..





The pictures below are from the album booklet
the serve as a sneak peek to a much larger narrative
based around the chandelier concept.

We were trying to find a way to use both Jon harts band
photography and my art in a unique way..this kind of punk
defacement of his photos seemed to suit it the best and felt
a little cheeky

also added is the national tour poster which was
very fun to beat up and age

falls at your feet

So here is the latest single art for QLD band
Montpelier , i love that this band embraces the
across the board visual branding I have done with
them ..this little ditty came to me when i heard
someone talking about living at the end of the earth..
and I thought imagine a town at the end of the earth
the way they once thought of the earth..and then the
idea of these poor fisherman who go out everyday but fall
off the end and never come back..anyways..lets let the picture
do the talking shall we

the spotlight has gone dim

my lady time , dim , recently took this photo
of two little ones wearing paper plate rabbit
masks she made..i flipped when i saw it and thought
it perfect for the single art for avalanche city's
next single you and i , im so glad they agreed..

can't this war be a little more civil

face to face

here is what my design for boy and bears spiffy
new website looks like..there is an App and itunes
interactive booklet coming soon and i will upload
how they look very soon...

milk and sticks won't break your bones

Here is the new single cover for boy and bear's new
single, Milk and sticks. it was taken at the the saddest
looking gas station i have ever seen in the middle of
nowhere in kansas.



Here is the original pic before the fiddling with
the type . I must hand it to the boys with bears as
this was just a random photo i had put up and the saw
the opportunity to re-work it into this cover..

a horse is a horse , of course of course

hey y'all..heres the front cover to dead letter
chorus' upcoming album yearlings. Its a fairly
different style for me and i was sort of taking my
cues from radioheads long term visual main man ,
Stanley Donwood. it dub it kid A with horsies.
The entire album art was built from my laptop while
on the road in the states recently..its an odd experience
doing it like that..fighting car sickness while being creative
is not a very sexy marriage..

This is a Re-working of the aaa pass from
the tour but i have fused it the main album image
from the upcoming album , that is below , a cover
that I art directed and then the forthcoming booklet
and itunes booklet / app will feature a lot more of my
artwork and design style ( the rip is a feature of the booklet)

so the Private Life is Renee Cassar's new project
its a fun mixture of pop rock and electro ..originally
she had something else in mind but being the over achieving
little sod i am i mocked up this hand painted reworking of 50's
childhood...and the new logo which was intended to be like a broken
old letter press mixed with an old crime photo...

I gather no moss...

..cause I was in rolling stone
( well my b&b studio pic was)

what kind of mickey mouse operation is this!

A very good friend of mine recently
introduced me to the work of Jerod Gibson
and if you know his work you can see the influence
on this poster right here..short story is i got asked
to do a poster for a cover of Disney songs night during
the fringe festival . The brief was something Disney but
not enough to get us sued...the result was this use of shapes
and type in a very cheeky way

fella was in high demand..

this is a bit " last year" but going through some
of my old files i stumbled upon this animatic i did
for blood to gold and was pretty surprised by how
close i actually got it ...
