MONT BLANC

I love working with a band committed to sticking to
a concept and Montpelier is the best example of
this with their commitment to stick with my concept of
the sky being the ocean ( a childhood notion that i now use)
i look forward to exploring this even further when we
work on their upcoming album

the bottoms are torn by the way to leave blank room for
the band to write what and where the gig is being played..

across the universe

The artworks were done many many moons
ago for the maquarie university compilation
cd known as universe city ..i did this the previous
year and its great fun as its finding a theme
for the whole album then running with it..this
year i was compelled to play with textures and
the notion of outer space..the original idea of the
observatory head was actually a biodome head but
as with everything it evolved and became this..

it was also an exercise in doing something out of
my usual colour palette comfort zone
so im glad its out now and has some great bands
such as my peeps boy and bear and tin sparrow..

if you build it ..they will come

here's the single cover for Georgia
fairs song Marianne ..its a great track and the
still is taken from the recent video shoot

ode to joy

This current crop of poster art is full of
odes and references..ranging from the obvious
playing with the iconic image from 2001 to the
cheeky tip of the hat to the famous Woodstock
poster..added into the mix is the reworking of a
photo i took of a fake bison in the museum of
natural history in new york..honestly i took
so many i could use them for an entire years work..

bringing an avalanche to the ocean

had a great time over the weekend shooting
baxter from new zealand band avalanche city ,
who this week have the number one song in their
home country with love love love..we shot
the follow up video along the great ocean road
in victoria ...i was inspired to shoot it there
as thats where some of where the wild things was filmed
added to that it had an amazing coastline and lighthouse

anyways the clip will be up in the next few weeks or so
but just wanted to share a taste

this pic is what it looks like after
you film a shot like the one at the top
of the post

heres a few more shots

let the lights guide you home

above is the tour artwork for boy and bears
autumn tour ,the top on is the main tour poster
( with even more dates to be added!!!) and the others
are for the street presses in each state..

the art work is a teaser , if you will , for a much larger
concept that will be applied to the band over the next
few months..im so excited about this..its a concept i love
and have nurtured for year and to apply it to a band like
this is a pure joy...

the production of these images was kinda funny as i had
the very nice Andrew Finnegan play the explorer dressed
in costume hired garb and then we went to the local mall
and in their carpark is a large green wall that we used for
our own make shift sfx studio..i must say we got some pretty
strange looks

new video coming soon

coming very soon is the new video for
Georgia fair..the track is called Marianne
and heres a sneak peek..

we shot it on a very hot January day down
on the coast..we shot it to look like old
photography and i joked we were shooting
it on hipstavision after the iphone app
called hipstamatic..an app that ages photos..

anyways clip and single will be released
very soon

east side stories

here are some recent posters i
have done for the lovely peoples at
eastside radio..
i kinda took that jazz feel and ran
with it like a kid with his pants full
of bee's

and now for my next trick

its no secret i love the old timey stuff
as well as old magician posters so when
doing this poster for the wonderful tin sparrows
residency at the oxford arts factory i thought
it would be fun to play with these themes as well
as things that seem to be falling from the sky..
a concept thats been used on their upcoming
ep..

you have something on your.......

natural selection posters are always fun
and this came from a random doodle i did
on the bus..originally it was fox tail mo
and the person had the two opposing foxes tied
behind his head ..but this was hard to pull off
so squirrel's were next in line and seemed to work
a treat...( how old am i using expressions like that)

hold them or fold them

I have always enjoyed my working relationship/
friendship with the amazing sydney singer/sonwriter
jack carty through our work together on his ep and
recent single we share a drive to push ourselves
just that little bit further so i was excited to
see what we could do together for his upcoming album
"one thousand origami birds"

The trick was to have something that related to that very visual title but also not be obvious..this cave world had been an idea i had been trying to get going but never really found the right context until this..it was a case of taking from jacks lyrics about paper birds flying too close to the sun and then , boom, it hit me that the birds could be escaping this world only to sentenced to death for doing so..it was a wonderful and vivid picture that was placed in my head and the world flowed fast after that..
there is in fact atleast 10 other parts to this world that didnt make it to this world that i may blog about after its release

this last image is the back cover as a pure image without
the cave and explorer in front of it..it was a fave of mine
and i just wanted to share it here

go you husky's

this one was a long process going through many ideas
some goodish , some bullshit narnia rip offs and then
going through my old ideas diary i came across an image
when i drew it was just a silly throw away image but when
thinking about the title history's door , the two seemed
destined and melbourne band husky seemed to agree..
this also kicks off a relationship with these guys as i will
be art directing their album and directing and producing an
epic animated video clip in the next few months

good times ahead

patrick james

so i have been a fan of patrick james' music since i saw him
at a natural selection night about 6 months ago so when i was
asked to do a branding of sorts for him i jumped at the chance.
the artwork is for his various media pages as well as this we
did a publicity photo shoot , where i have been experimenting
in hand tinting , on top of this on the day we decided to do
an off the cuff , one take , live version of his song carry on..
my years of training on shoot the player really paid off as this
was a very fun , laid back performance the results of which are
above..

cover me ..im going in

so the other night i received an email asking me
if i could do a cover for a surf/western band called
the tin stars...never one to back down from a challenge
i accepted and here is the result

trapped in amber

So i have known the directors of this show
for a while now..they are very good friends so
i was very excited when they asked me to do a promo
series of photos and poster for their upcoming play..

im so happy for them and tim aka mase is like the
godfather of old time-y to me so to get a hearty thumbs
up on these faux aged photos makes me extra happy
